YOU
Through “You,” I wanted to explore the complexity of love and denial while restricting myself to one minute, one shot, and one line.
Despite being antonyms, the words “love” and “loathe” are not only similar phonetically, but the feelings they allude to are not as far from each other as what we always make them to be. As a matter of fact, sometimes pain originating from unreciprocated love can be found hidden underneath a surface level loathing. The film’s intention is to recognize the truth that's often hidden behind anger (pain) and hate (aka love).
Moreover, I wanted to experiment with one word’s ability to take on many different meanings depending on how it is delivered. Therefore, making use of only three repeated words, the film undergoes the different stages of coming to terms with one’s denial.
